Edmond's Premier Hair Stylist: Stormy Styles
I am a stylist who has always loved to color and cut! Both should work together to suit your lifestyles and preferences. I specialize in blondes, grey blending, full grey coverage, rainbows and so on and so forth. I love all services beauty, from weekly blowouts, perms, weddings to facial waxing. In my salon you will see men and women of all ages and backgrounds. My space at Blonde Ambition is gender inclusive and sensory sensitive. Kick back with a refreshment, bring work or something to knit while your hair processes and leave feeling wonderful.
Color Your Mood at Stormy Styles
I change my hair color a lot, so don’t get used to seeing me with one shade or style! I am originally from Edmond, Ok. I graduated from Edmond North in 2011 and went on to complete the Cosmetology program at Francis Tuttle on Rockwell. I was taught with Paul Mitchell products and by guest Paul Mitchell educators, in addition to the amazing instructors on campus. I then passed my State Board Exam, beginning my hair career at Loc Salon in 2013 under the guidance of Erin Thomas. I later moved my work from Nichols Hills to Edmond at JC’s Funky Hair Ranch under the guidance of JC Mahan. While working as a stylist, I also went to college full time and graduated cum laude with a BS in Psychology from SNU. I continued as a Paul Mitchell stylist independently and now have a station at Blonde Ambition.
My space is very open, complete with a comfy shampoo chair and bowl with a head rest, retro dryer chairs and styling chairs. It’s a laid back environment my clients look forward to. I love making people feel great and giving them some form of instantaneous gratification when the rest of their world might be in pieces. I cherish the relationships I have with my clients, and how much priceless value they add to my life. Being a Paul Mitchell stylist means to be in service to your community and to your environment, and that is what I strive to do for the people who sit in my chair.

Stormy is the sweetest stylist ever! I’ve been seeing her for 8 years now and I’m very happy with my hair every time I leave the salon! This girl is an actual magician. I came in desperate thinking I had ruined my hair after a dreadful home cut job and the only solution would be to chop it all. Do you feel like you’re struggling with growing out your locks? Here are 7 tips to prevent breakage!

1. Only use soft, flat fabric hair ties, scrunchies or spiral hair ties. Do not use hair ties with a rounded, rubber band for center (even those everyday, round fabric covered hair bands - don’t use them - they roll and catch the hair causing breakage.)
2. Don’t go to bed with your hair wet! Hair is most fragile when wet, and lying on wet hair puts tension on it, which can cause breakage. It can also cause matting, tangling, and even mold on the scalp to grow in severe cases.
3. Sleep on a silk pillow case. Cotton fabric fiber catches your hair strands and causes tearing.
4. Stop over washing your hair. Once or twice a week is enough. When you do wash it, shampoo twice and condition once, only on the mids to ends.
5. Use a detangling leave in product after washing, such as Olaplex #6 and #7.
6. Always detangle your hair from the ends and work your way up to the roots. If you’re detangling wet hair, only use a wide tooth comb or designated wet brush.
7. Never use a heat tool above 350 degrees and always use an appropriate form of heat protection, such as Neuro Protect. Avoid tension or repeatedly going over the same section with heat.

My final entry for the #oneshothairawards is a collection featuring this 1950’s Valentine’s photoshoot with @studiobeanhead ! Doing a photoshoot this February was so fun, complete with a 1950’s dryer chair, LIFE magazines AND - the camera filming the action was even on a 1950’s camera stand. It was a real time hop!

I took this funky punky pixie with an undercut and styled it into finger waves. Dried and brushed out, it was the perfect Marilyn look for the shoot.
.
The color HAD to be a shade of pink for 2024, so I chose to do some color blocking with pastel, flamingo and Malibu pink shades mixed from Paul Mitchell Color Ways to get a water color effect. Treated with Bond Rx and styled with Hydrocream Whip and Memory Shaping Gel, set with Awapuhi Wild Ginger Finishing spray.

#1 Hot water. Hot water is the devil when it comes to hair and skin! It fades your color faster, dries your hair out, and can cause highlights or grey hair to yellow.
#2 Hot tools. Again, with the heat! Your flat iron, blow dryer or curling iron can 💯 turn your highlights or grey hair yellow. I’m not saying don’t use them - I’m saying use heat protect correctly, i.e. wet heat protect products go on wet hair and dry heat protect products go on dry hair. Keep your temp below 360 degrees, and don’t hold the iron to one section of your hair for too long.
#3 Hard water and / or product build up. This one encompasses everything from your foundation staining your hair line and minerals from hard water and / or products building up can cause yellowing. A clarifying shampoo used once in a while can help combat this. For hard water, a water softener and / or shower head filter can help with this. A friendly reminder to clients:
A 24 hour cancellation policy has been in place for my business for the last two years. I have been extremely lenient, and it is coming to my attention that it needs to be enforced if I’m going to stay in business.
Imagine you’re a stylist with your own business. It’s the first day of the week - your booth rent and all of your expenses are due up front, every week. The first client of your day cancels two hours before their appointment. Then the second hair color of your day cancels two hours before their appointment. Half of your first day of the week is already gone. You still have to be able to make your car payment and auto and health insurance, in addition to your weekly start up expense.
Sometimes stylists even have an ENTIRE DAY of no shows or last minute cancellations. I witnessed this happen to another stylist the day after Christmas just last month. No business owner can stay open and tolerate that abuse of time.
When a stylist books your appointment, they turn down other clients who could have potentially booked. Giving them less than 24 hour notice of a cancellation robs them of their ability to make an income. Is this on purpose always? Of course not, illness and accidents happen.
This is why small business owners have to have a cancellation policy in place. We aren’t doing it to be mean or get back at you. We have it in place just so we can keep our businesses open and stay afloat. The average stylist burns out 6 to 10 years into the business. It’s not free for us to go to work and have our chair available to service you.
